KUCHING: The street light project along the main road in Samarahan is expected to be completed shortly when power is connected to all the lampposts, said Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

Julaihi said the project is divided into two packages and funded by the Sarawak government through the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), with the first package divided into three clusters.

“Cluster 1 runs along Jalan Stakan/Jalan Pentagon/Kawasan Samarahan with 856 lampposts while Cluster 2 starting from Batang Samarahan bridge to Pekan Asajaya has 362 lampposts.

“Cluster 3 starting from Pekan Asajaya to Batang Sadong Bridge has 568 lampposts, with the cost of RM13.9 million for the first package,” he said in his Facebook post after a site visit to Samarahan recently.

Meanwhile, Julaihi said Package 2 is divided into five clusters, amounting to RM17.8 million.

“Cluster 1 starting from Jalan Gedong towards Simunjan Bridge has 553 lampposts while Cluster 2 from Simpang Simunjan (Pan Borneo Highway) towards Pekan Simunjan has 425 lampposts.
