KUCHING: A renowned sape player, Saufi Aiman Yahya, was found dead in his rented room at Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, Pending on Thursday.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah who confirmed the case, said the 31-year-old was found unconscious by his friend around 8.45pm.

“Investigations found that Saufi was last seen at lunch with his friend on the same day.

“Therefore, the police believe that he had died less than six hours earlier,” he told, adding that the case is being classified as sudden death.

Firemen from Padungan station were also alerted of the incident to assist in bringing the body out from the room.

The team clad in complete personal protective suit (PPE), carried the body and put it into a police truck before being taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further action.

In 2017, Saufi made Malaysia proud by bagging four gold medals and a silver medal at the 21st World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in California.
