SAR launched for man who fell off boat


MARUDI: A search and rescue (SAR) operations has been launched to look for an Indian national who reportedly fell off a boat in Sungai Baram.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the SAR operations was activated immediately after they received a report on the incident at 1.54am on Sunday. It comprised seven firemen from Marudi fire station and local policemen.

The missing man has been identified as Rajan Ranjesh, 29.

“When other crew members realised he was missing, they immediately called up the emergency services for help,” Law said.

Sunday’s SAR covered areas within 2km radius from the spot where the victim was last seen.

As at press time, there was still no trace of the missing man.
