SARIKEI: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched for an elderly man reported missing while fishing at Sungai Rusa last Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Liong Kheng Onn, 72, was said to have gone out fishing around 5pm that day.
According to a police report lodged by the victim’s daughter, her father had not returned home at 9pm and she called her father’s friends, who had no idea where the victim went.
Search conducted by the victim’s daughter and friends failed to find the septuagenarian. They only found his slippers, fishing gear and the motorcycle used by the victim at the scene.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has deployed firemen from Sarikei Fire and Rescue station to look out for the man. They are being assisted by local villagers.
As at press time, the victim is yet to be found.
