MUKAH: A search and rescue (SAR) mission is underway for an Indonesian national, who is believed to have drowned while attempting to disentangle a rope caught in a ship’s propeller.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), they received a report regarding the incident at 8.26 am today that incident happened at the Tanjung Sirik, Pulau Bruit Daro on the same day.

According to the boat captain, the 39-year-old Rosli after jumping in the sea, disappeared from sight for an extended period which prompted a report to the Malaysia Civil Defence (APM)

“A rescue base was set up at Daro public jetty in partnership with the Maritime Authority, Daro Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and Daro APM.

“Maritime informed that the incident occurred in the waters of Tanjung Syirik, Pulau Bruit, Daro, approximately 18.7NM (about 35km) north of the Pulau Bruit Daro area, involving an Indonesian victim.

“No need for rescue boat assistance from agencies as the search was underway using 3 Maritime assets. Firefighters along with other agencies, stand ready for victim transfer if found and information gathering,” it said.

The operation was temporarily halted at 12.20 pm due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
