SARATOK: Plans are in place for the Saratok Public Park to be upgraded said Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.

He said a sum of RM300,000 has been allocated for improvement works to both preserve its beauty as well as to align with the plans of the state government.

“We will not leave it as it is (in damaged condition). We are aware of the condition of the park, situated in the heart of Saratok Town, which was once a beautiful recreational spot.

“God willing, it is indeed part of the Sarawak government’s plans to revitalise it,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Community Development Department (KEMAS) Appreciation Day for the Kalaka and Krian state constituency yesterday.

Mohamad said in the meantime, the park would be temporarily closed to make way for the upgrading works.

On sports facilities, the Kalaka assemblyman said the Betong Development Division Agency (BDDA) has allocated RM15 million to upgrade the Saratok mini stadium.

“Both Krian assemblyman Friday Belik and myself are collaborating to develop Saratok, including sports facilities.

“Therefore, RM15 million will be spent on upgrading the stadium, which, when completed, can be used by everyone, including schools wishing to organise annual sports events.

“May the efforts of the Sarawak government bring significant benefits to sports development,” he added.
