KUCHING: The Sarawak Club presented its three adopted charities for the 2018-2019 term with donations raised from its members.

The beneficiaries were the Sarawak AIDS Concern Society (SACS), Kuching Parkinson’s Society (KPS), and Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), with each organisation receiving RM10,000.

The cheques were presented by members of The Sarawak Club’s management committee, led by its president Melvin Wee at a simple ceremony yesterday.

For the past decade, The Sarawak Club has been focused on lending a helping hand to new non-profit organisations which have just formed and are less known in the wider community.

Exposure of the great work done by these organisations is important to ensure that they are seen and heard — and the Club offers a ready platform of well-minded members who may be able to assist and contribute to their cause.

One such point in case is of a member, Mike Lim, and his group of friends who had banded together to put on a charity musical concert on November 19 to raise funds for the three said charities.

Through their own efforts and contacts, the humble concert grew into an international effort with performers of various genres from near and far volunteering to put on a show.

With over 200 individuals packing the hall, they raised a net sum of RM22,149 for the Club’s three adopted charities.

In the spirit of Christmas, Club members and staff also granted the Christmas wishes of 85 of the charities’ beneficiaries via its annual Christmas Giving Tree.
