DBP unveils Premier Sarawak Best Book Awards 2022/2023

KUCHING: In a historic move, the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch is set to host the inaugural Premier Sarawak Best Book Awards 2022/2023.

This prestigious accolade aims to recognise and honour outstanding authors originating from Sarawak.

Divided into two distinct categories, namely DBP Publication and External Publisher Publication, the awards offer lucrative prizes and recognition to deserving winners.

Under the DBP Publication category, recipients stand to receive a substantial cash prize of RM10,000, along with a Certificate of Appreciation and a complimentary copy of a DBP publication.

Meanwhile, winners in the External Publisher Publication category will be rewarded with a cash prize of RM5,000, a Certificate of Appreciation, and a complimentary DBP publication.

To qualify for consideration, books must adhere to specific criteria, including publication within the years 2022–2023 and covering diverse subjects of general literature, all written in the Malay language.

Furthermore, the works must be original creations published either by DBP or external publishers.

Eligible works must be original creations, shedding light on Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage, beliefs, medicinal practices, landscapes, economy, flora and fauna, and socio-cultural aspects.

The awards aim to highlight publications of exceptional quality that contribute to the intellectual growth of Sarawak’s society.

Authors or external publishers based in Sarawak are encouraged to nominate their works by submitting a completed nomination form and four original copies of the book before the deadline of May 3, 2024. Three copies are for the panel of judges, and one copy is for the organising committee.

While the shipping costs are the responsibility of the author or publishing company, nominated books will not be returned.

DBP stressed that only one general literature book published by DBP and one book published by an external publisher will be bestowed with the prestigious awards.

Recipients must be Malaysian citizens with Sarawakian origins.
