Sarawak delegation advocates for early childhood education at Sydney conference

KUCHING: The Sarawak delegation made strides in early childhood education at the 12th World Organisation for Early Childhood Education (OMEP) Asia-Pacific Conference held at Macquarie University in Sydney.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah and her delegation participated in impactful activities yesterday (Dec 6), including a study visit to the Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre, OMEP registration, a visit to Waratah Cottage, and the official launch of the conference.

The heart of the conference unfolded today (Dec 7) when Fatimah presented a paper titled “Providing Access, Equity, Quality, and Inclusive Early Childhood Education in Sarawak”, attended by representatives from 21 different countries.

The Sarawak delegation included key figures such as Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus, deputy permanent secretary Colliner Gohe, Early Childhood Development head Salina Bujang, SeDidik Sdn Bhd general manager Ayub Dahari, and Association of Kindergarten Operators (AKO) Sarawak president Jason Kong, alongside two ministry officers and four educators from SeDidik Sarawak.

OMEP, an international, non-governmental, and non-profit organisation with Consultative Status at the United Nations, is hosting its 12th Asia-Pacific Conference from Dec 6 to 8 in Sydney, Australia.

OMEP focuses on defending and promoting the rights of the child, with a special emphasis on the right to education and care worldwide.

The organisation supports initiatives that promote access to quality early childhood education and care.
