SARATOK: The Sarawak government has approved funds under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to upgrade the open arena at Rumah Ikom near Senyawan.

In addition to this, assistance in the form of construction materials will be provided to residents affected by recent strong winds.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri noted that the annual RTP funds are consistently utilised to enhance village infrastructure for the welfare of the people.

“Applications submitted by each village or longhouse are always scrutinised for consideration. Although they are allocated based on priorities, all areas will receive attention eventually,” he explained.

“For instance, today I had the opportunity to inspect the Rumah Ikom area, which will be upgraded through the RTP project in the Kalaka constituency,” he told the media on Wednesday (Nov 15).

Mohamad added that the Rumah Ikom area will witness tangible development results for the community, especially the youth, who will benefit from upgraded sports facilities in the covered open arena.

He expressed hope that the enhanced infrastructure would foster more frequent community activities and engagement.

Addressing the damage caused by strong winds, he personally inspected a room at the end of the longhouse that suffered structural damage.

Immediate assistance, in the form of materials for repair, is being provided to alleviate the burden on affected residents.

Mohamad reminded the community to exercise caution during the ongoing northeast monsoon season, considering the anticipated heavy rain and strong winds. Saratok District officer Haron Mahidi also joined the visit.
