BELAGA: The Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Church in Long Dungan here, which was fully completed in December 2020, proves that the state government is sensitive and caring towards the needs of other religions in Sarawak.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang said the state government, through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), is ready to assist other religions in need.

He said UNIFOR would accept applications from all over Sarawak, submitted by elected representatives, before processing them for the allocation of assistance, such as building churches or restoring places of worship.

Liwan made these remarks in his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the church here, recently.

For the record, the church received financial assistance of RM280,000 from UNIFOR, with RM80,000 used for basic construction works and RM200,000 for the complete setup of the church.

Additionally, the church also received donations from individuals amounting to RM8,419.60.
