BINTULU: The Sarawak government is committed to fairly compensating legitimate landowners of native customary rights (NCR) land, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He emphasised that as long as landowners possess the necessary documents and can demonstrate the history of their land ownership, they will receive compensation without any issues.

He acknowledged that the issue of native customary rights (NCR) land often arises during elections but highlighted the government’s professionalism in handling such matters, adhering to the legal framework.

“We maintain a high level of professionalism in politics, adhering to our legal framework.

“We have a Land Court in place, and when we utilise someone’s land, we ensure they receive proper compensation,” he said after attending a site visit to the Bintulu Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC) today (Nov 3).

Moreover, he shared that the government has been relocating people from Kampung Bintawa and Kampung Semarang to Darul Hana, ensuring that they move with ease and at no cost.

“Their relocation is supported by us (state government), and they essentially move without any financial burden.

“Basically, we provide the funds for them to purchase new homes from the compensation.

“Furthermore, we extend our assistance to the extended family, such as in-laws, by helping them construct houses in places like Sungai Bedaun.”

As such, Abang Johari stressed that these initiatives are integral to the future of the people, as they are intended to benefit the local population and promote progress in the region. “Our aim is to uplift our people and promote their development.”
