KUCHING: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) recently received a repayment incentive of RM12.43 million from Yayasan Sarawak.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Grand Hall of Menara PTPTN in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Dec 27).

The mock cheque was handed over by Yayasan Sarawak’s deputy director of education Louis Simon Peter to PTPTN chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid and was witnessed by PTPTN chairperson Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim.

Also present during the ceremony were PTPTN chief operations officer Mastura Mohd Khalid, PTPTN management staff and Yayasan Sarawak representatives.

For the record, the repayment incentive aims to assist in settling the outstanding loans of Sarawakian students.

Back in 2021, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between Yayasan Sarawak and PTPTN for the PTPTN Sarawak Student Loan Repayment Incentive.

Through the collaboration, the state government will continue to provide financial assistance for Sarawakian students by covering up to 30 per cent of the outstanding balance of PTPTN loans for borrowers who have already repaid at least 30 per cent of their loan debts.

This initiative is a testament to the state government’s concern and proactive efforts to ensure that students can break free from the shackles of debt.

The state government has made a payment of RM90.4 million to PTPTN so far.

Last month, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced at the tabling of the 2024 State Budget that RM30 million would be set aside to assist Sarawakian graduates in repaying their study loan debts.
