KUCHING: The Sarawak Forest Department (SFD) has recently granted a study permit for forest carbon activities to a local company in the state.

SFD director Datuk Hamden Mohammad said that before issuing the Forest Carbon License, applicants must obtain the study permit first.

“With this permit, the company is required to submit the Sarawak Project Design Document (SPDD) within two years. If they fail to do so, we will take back the permit,” he said.

Hamden said this during the press conference after the Forest Carbon Activity Seminar at Kuching Waterfront Hotel Today (August 8).

While the application is open to all, the SFD will carefully assess the capabilities of the companies before granting the permit.

“We cannot give out permits indiscriminately, as it could negatively impact our market. Forest carbon initiatives involve international trading, and we aim to protect Sarawak’s reputation,” Hamden added.
