KUCHING: The supply of controlled goods, especially chicken and eggs, is stable and sufficient in Sarawak, hence, the public should refrain from panic buying.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said so far, there was no supply disruption for the market in the state.

“This is good news for Sarawak because poultry farms and chicken egg producers in the state have faced or been affected by any disruption in the supply chain,” he said.

“We have asked the industry players under Sarawak Livestock Breeders Association (SLBA) not to reduce the produce of chicken and eggs, to supply to the market. We also told them to inform us immediately if they face any issue,” he said.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), the minister said this when met by the media after a dialogue session with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) and SLBA here today.

Apart from that, Nanta has called on the public not to make panic purchases or buy way more than what they need.

“I appeal to consumers – do not buy excessively, because the supply is guaranteed to be sufficient. If panic buying happens, then this will cause other problems,” he said.

Also present at the dialogue session were Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and his Assistant Ministers Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Martin Ben.
