BAU: Sarawak is leading the way in promoting harmony among various religious groups, setting an example for other states in Malaysia.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said this can be seen in the creation of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), which works to strengthen ties between different religious communities.

“Sarawak is unique because of UNIFOR. Our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has made it clear that we have no religious conflicts in Sarawak.

“While some areas might deal with religious tensions, Sarawak is taking steps to spread the positive influence of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to West Malaysia.

“The aim of our state government is clear: enact policies that serve every Sarawakian, no matter their faith. If we stand together, we can introduce these balanced and fair policies in West Malaysia,” Yap said.

He said this during the Enlightenment Ceremony held at the Nirvana Memorial Park today (September 3).

Furthermore, Yap said that his constituency has benefitted from over RM2 million in funds from UNIFOR for building and upgrading places of worship like temples and churches.

Earlier, the 21st Enlightenment Ceremony by Nirvana Memorial Park was attended by over 500 people.

Nirvana Memorial Park CEO Siaw Chow Jin and managing director Anna Wong, were also present at the event.
