KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) uses at least 1,000 personal protection equipment (PPE) per day during this Covid-19 pandemic, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said the state government earlier purchased 50,000 PPE worth RM6.5 million from China but they were enough for only 50 days at SGH alone.

“The cost of PPE will continue to increase due to worldwide demand,” he said in his Facebook post yesterday.

Sim added that he was grateful to the state government for purchasing the PPE which arrived on April 9 and were distributed to 36 hospitals and healthcare facilities statewide last Wednesday.

“All Sarawak MPs must do their part in fighting hard for funding as hospital and health matters are under the federal list and handled by Putrajaya.

“Alternatively, give Sarawak RM200 million of our oil money per day,” he said.  He added that every Sarawakian had a role to play in curbing the Covid-19 crisis.
