Sarawak NGO lauds Budget 2023

KUCHING: Persatuan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) chairman Manjeet Kaur Sidhu has lauded the Budget 2023 as it benefits both Sarawak and Sabah.

In stating this, she also expressed her hope that the Sarawak agencies here can accelerate the development of roads, water, and electricity throughout the state especially the rural areas.

“Moreover, the initiative to increase the facilities such as clinics in the rural parts is urgently needed as in the event of emergencies, transportation could be a hurdle.

“Therefore, a clinic nearby them would definitely help them a lot in the matter,” she said when contacted by the New Sarawak Tribune.

Following this, she also urged Sarawak to use the RM5.6 billion fund allocated to them wisely.

“The fund should be used in areas that lack infrastructure so that businesses and transportation of that particular area can flourish.

“Once it is done, it will definitely improve the economic status of the rural folks and they can enjoy the facilities similar to that of rural folks,” she said.

As such, Manjeet expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for giving allocation to the Borneo states in this year’s budget.

“We need the allocation badly here, therefore, I would like to thank the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) and the Prime Minister for working effortlessly to make things happen in Sarawak. Sarawak Boleh!”

For the record, in the Budget 2023, Anwar has announced an allocation of RM5.6 billion for the development of Sarawak. He said RM2.5 billion will be channelled for roads, water and electricity supply in the state.

In line with this, he also stated that to facilitate the affairs of the people in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak, the federal government will also increase the facilities of clinics, banks and many more with a total of RM30 million.
