Sarawak records 1,165 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,165 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Oct 13), pushing the cumulative number of cases to 227,675.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 1,150 or 98.71 per cent of the new cases were in Category 1 and 2, while 15 or 1.29 per cent fell into Category 3, 4 and 5.

“There were 343 cases or 29.44 per cent in Category 1 (no symptoms), 807 cases or 69.27 per cent in Category 2 (mild symptoms) and two cases or 0.17 per cent in Category 3 (lung infections).

“Category 4 (lung infections and require oxygen) had nine cases or 0.77 per cent while four cases or 0.34 per cent were in Category 5 (lung infections and require ventilator),” SDMC said on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 257 were in Kuching; Miri (211); Sibu (128); Bintulu (77); Bau (63); Subis (56); Mukah (37); Sarikei (32); Betong (27); Simunjan (25); 24 each in Serian, Kapit and Kanowit; 18 each in Saratok and Daro; Sri Aman (16); Lawas (14); Pakan (13); 10 each in Samarahan and Matu.

There were nine cases each in Marudi and Dalat; Limbang (eight); seven each in Pusa and Beluru; six each in Meradong and Kabong; Julau (five); Belaga (four); three each in Song, Tatau and Sebauh; two each in Lundu, Lubok Antu, Selangau and Tebedu; one each in Asajaya, Telang Usan and Bukit Mabong.

SDMC also announced the emergence of three new clusters, namely Menuang Cluster and Ensurai Cluster in Limbang as well as DTI Bekenu Cluster in Subis.

“The Menuang Cluster is a community cluster involving residents and visitors of one longhouse located in Menuang area in Limbang. There are 18 positive cases, including the index case, 65 negative and one new case reported today.

“The Ensurai Cluster is also a community cluster involving residents and visitors of one longhouse located at Ensurai, Medamit area in Limbang. There are 19 positive cases, 201 negative and two new cases reported today.”

Meanwhile, the DTI Bekenu Cluster in Subis is a detention depot cluster involving a detainee at the Immigration Detention Depot under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) located in Bekenu, Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri.

SDMC said 48 individuals were positive, including the index case, while 44 new cases were reported on Wednesday.

In another development, the Sebayang-Stalun Cluster in Limbang and Pasar Matu Cluster in Matu have ended after no new cases were reported in the past 28 days.

Sarawak currently has 66 active clusters.
