KUCHING: As part of its ongoing initiatives to contribute to the transformation of Sarawak’s six key economic sectors (main engines of growth), the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) recently formalised its collaborations with various strategic partners through an exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

Held on December 14, 2022 at the Sarawak Skills’ Group Headquarters in Kuching, the exchange of MoUs marked the beginning of a host of strategic initiatives between Sarawak Skills and three of its strategic partners, namely, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Walta Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Penang.

“The MoUs will pave the way for the parties to synergize substantial expertise and resources, and boost ongoing strategic initiatives, especially in the area of contributing to the transformation of Sarawak’s six key economic sectors (main engines of growth) in line with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” commenting on this latest development, Sarawak Skills’ executive director and the chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) Hallman Sabri.

Datuk Maznah Dasmi, secretary of the Sarawak Skills Management Council witnessed the exchange of the MoUs.

“I would like to highlight that the formalisation of our collaboration(s) this morning marks the beginning of an exciting voyage for the parties to explore and eventually offer a wide range of customised Industry 4.0 solutions to industries across the length and breadth of Sarawak.

“Indeed, the doors of opportunity are open for our organisations to carry out a wide range of joint activities covering the broad spectrum of workforce training, research, programme development and consultation services in railway technology, machine retrofit and automation technology,” he said.

“This will also enable us to reach out to industries across Sarawak and facilitate their access to, and benefit from the latest technologies, thereby raising the bar in many aspects of their operations such as improving productivity, cost management, and fostering innovation.

“We look forward to working closely with our strategic/technology partners to implement a host of joint strategic initiatives for the benefit of current and future generations of the populace,” he added.

Hallman also shared that important lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 had facilitated Sarawak Skill’s quest to prepare for the voyage ahead.

Also present during the event were various officials from UniKL, UNIMAS, Walta Engineering Sdn. Bhd., and members of the Sarawak Skills management team.
