Sarawak Youth Talent 2021 winners announced

KUCHING: Winners of the Sarawak Youth Talent (SYT) 2021 were announced via Zoom recently and streamed on the SYT Facebook page.

Five students won the Outstanding Award for their short videos and 13 won the Commended Award, in the university and college category.

These students are from UCSI University Kuching, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Taylor’s University (Subang Jaya), Universiti Sains Malaysia (Penang), SMK Baru (Miri), SMK Asyakirin, (Bintulu) and SMK Kubong (Limbang).

For the secondary school category, five students also won the Outstanding Award for their posters and 20 of them won the Commended Award.

These students are from SM Sains Kuching Utara (Kuching), SMK Chung Hua (Sibu), SMK Lutong (Miri), SMK DPHA Gapor (Kuching) and SMK Chung Hua (Miri).

SYT 2021 is an annual event organised by Sarawak Research Society (SRS) and Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UCSI University with support from the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Education Department.

It aimed to recognise the talents of the younger generation through posters and short videos and promote responsible behaviour.

The competition attracted submissions from 239 university, college and secondary school students throughout Sarawak.

The submissions were evaluated virtually by 20 national judges and eight international judges from various institutions, including Sarawak Tourism Board, AirAsia Regional Centre of Expertise Kuching and Emerald Publishing (East Asia).

SYT will be held again in August 2022 and the announcement is expected to be made soon.
