Sarawakian para athletes set to shine at 4th Asian Para Games

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Fifteen Sarawakian para athletes will be competing at the 4th Asian Para Games from October 22 to 28, held at China’s Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.

Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah announced that ten men and five women Sarawakian para athletes will represent the Malaysian contingent at the Games.

“The Malaysian contingent is aiming for 35 medals, and the Sarawakian para athletes are expected to achieve two gold medals, four silver medals and 12 bronze medals.

“A total of 113 Malaysian athletes would be set to compete in the Games and out of that number 15 Sarawakian para athletes have been chosen,” she said in her speech during the Kuching Love Book Association’s 5th Anniversary Charity Night held at the Salvation Army Community Complex here last night (October 21).

In addition, Fatimah disclosed that powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau, as well as paralympic swimmers Muhammad Nur Syaiful Zulkafli and Fraidden Dawan, will also represent Malaysia in the Games in China.

During the event, a total of RM30,000 was donated to three associations, namely the Kuching Autistic Association, Kuching Life Care Society, and Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng.

The charity night gala, organised by the Kuching Love Book Association in celebration of their fifth year anniversary, raised funds for the three associations, with each of them receiving RM10,000.

Additionally, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta donated RM4,000 to 20-year-old Imenwell Isak and two laptops to the Salvation Army.

In her speech, Fatimah highlighted that the visually impaired Imenwell received the donation to help him obtain a magnifier for clear reading, which will support his educational pursuits.

She further encouraged the audience to continue moving forward, stay committed to achieving success, and be surrounded by the support of a strong and caring community.

Among those present at the event were Kuching Love Book Association founder and chairperson May Loo and board of management of Kuching Chung Hua Primary School One to Six chairman Datuk Jonathan Chai Voon Tok.
