KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited to share his thoughts on green energy at a conference in Bali later this year.

He said he was invited as a speaker given that Sarawak is at the forefront of the new economy particularly on carbon emission and mitigation as well as the state’s move towards a green economy.

“During the recent Asia Carbon Conference 2023 (ACC2022), participants from Scandinavian countries like Norway requested (a copy of) my keynote address. They want to know more (about what Sarawak is doing).

“We are quite advanced in this, in fact we are working together with Indonesia for the creation of energy in their Malinau hydropower dam. Through Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), we are taking equity of 25 per cent in the project.

“Singapore also needs our energy, this means our clean energy is coming up and we are sharing our expertise with the neighboring countries,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after the launching of Hari Wanita Sarawak 2023 themed ‘Embrace Equality’ held at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) Demak here on Saturday (March 18).

Abang Johari stated that an official announcement on the findings of a phyto (pertaining to or derived from plants) plant research to produce biofuel would be made soon.

“The details will be known in the next two months, then we will make an official announcement. This will definitely change the whole economic dimension and become a key figure,” he said.
