SDEC inks MoUs with strategic partners in digitalisation mission

KUCHING: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) achieved another milestone with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

SDEC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Ghani said the MoU would accelerate Sarawak in achieving its target of digitalising its economy by expediting the development of telecommunications in Sarawak, especially in rural areas.

“This is also to further advance the state’s economic growth with each party collaborating together to leverage on each other’s infrastructure, not limited to dark fiber, lambda, bandwidth, tower and poles to accelerate Sarawak’s economy and digitalisation.

“On top of that, sharing of these infrastructures will contribute to lower cost of deployment in our state’s aspiration to be a smart and progressing nation by 2030.

“SEB has a long proven record of being the leading player of power industry in Sarawak – being an energy development company and a vertically integrated power utility within a vision to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for Sarawak by meeting the region’s need for reliable and renewable energy.

“The beauty of SEB infrastructures include optic cables, thousands of power line poles along the roads from hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants to its distribution are seen as significant contributor and important assets to Sarawak’s digital aspiration.”

Morshidi said this in his opening speech ahead of the signing of the MoU and tripartite agreement exchange between SDEC and strategic partners here on Thursday (Nov 10).

SDEC also signed MoUs with strategic partners, including Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), People Psyence Sdn Bhd, Ecotance Sdn Bhd and tripartite agreement exchange between SDEC, Centexs and Netafim (Thailand) Co Ltd.

SDEC was represented by chief executive officer Sudarnoto Osman while SEB was represented by James Ung, group chief operating officer, witnessed by Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Julaihi Narawi and Morshidi.

The MoU with People Psyence Sdn Bhd will cover the areas of digital talent acquisition, matching and management via solutions provided by People Psyence.

Under the MoU with Centexs, SDEC aims to establish and manage the SDEC-Centexs 5G Smart City Testbed in Centexs through 4G/5G Network as well as to build a functional telecommunication hub site and first public cloud in Sarawak.

The facilities then can be used as a practical hands-on training for Centexs graduates.

Meanwhile, the tripartite agreement exchange between SDEC, Centexs and Netafim (Thailand) Co Ltd aims to develop Precision and Discipline Agriculture Learning Platform for technology exploration and talent development in Sarawak.
