SEB wins five gold awards

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy has been awarded five Gold Class I and two Silver awards at the 37th Occupational Safety and Health Awards organised by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Sarawak Energy’s 2,400MW Bakun Hydroelectric Powerplant (HEP), 108MW Batang Ai HEP, 270MW Mukah Power Generation, 25MW Limbang Power Station, and 60MW Sungai Biawak Power Station were recognised with Gold Class I Awards under the Utilities Sectors category for very good management and practices in occupational safety and health.

The energy developer and power utility’s 944MW Murum HEP and 112MW Miri Power Station received Silver awards for good management and practices in occupational safety and health.

Limbang Power Station has won six times since 2012 including two consecutive Gold Class II Awards prior to this while Batang Ai HEP was awarded Gold Class II last year.

Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili when receiving the awards said, “These awards are recognition of our efforts to strengthen our occupational safety and health performance, and embed a proactive safety culture, so everyone is working towards the same objectives — no harm to people and no damage to the environment.”

Other guests at the awards ceremony included SEB (Power) chief executive officer James Ung; Project Delivery executive vice president Pramod Kumar Karunakaran; Hydro vice president Polycarp Wong; General Manager for Coal Mohd Abdullah Ali; Corporate Risk and HSE general manager Robin Tigai; Corporate Communication general manager Peing Tajang and other senior management.

The MSOSH Awards is presented annually to companies in Malaysia with outstanding occupational safety and health performance. A panel of auditors ensures the awards are objective through stringent documentation requirements and site verification audits.
