SIBU: A senior citizen was killed in a hit-and-run accident while crossing the road yesterday.
The 72-year-old died on the spot in the 9.30 pm accident which occurred at Jalan Lanang here.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the victim was crossing the road when he was hit by a car. The impact caused the victim to fall to the other lane of the road.
“The victim was then run over by another car on that lane. Both vehicles that were unidentified fled the scene,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkipli said the victim suffered serious head injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
