SIBU: An elderly driver sustained severe injuries following a two-vehicle collision along Mile 14, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu today.

The accident involving a Perodua Kancil and a Toyota Hilux, happened at around 8.30 am.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said firemen from Sibu Jaya station were promptly despatched to the scene after being alerted of the crash.

On arrival, they found that the 71-year-old Kancil driver was pinned in his car in a semi-conscious state.

Extrication works were immediately carried out to free the severely injured driver from his car.

Once he was freed, he was handed over to paramedics for medical attention before being taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The extent of his injuries was not known.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old pickup truck driver managed to escape unscathed in the collision.
