MIRI: Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) commander Datuk SAC Khaw Kok Chin yesterday reminded all GOF members and officers to perform their tasks with the utmost integrity.

“There will be no compromise against any personnel or officers involved in corruptions or bribery,” he said after presenting certificates of achievement and “Say No to Corruption” to 52 GOF Miri personnel of various ranks.

Out of the 52 recipients, 10 were awarded with the “Say No to Corruption” certificate each.  Meanwhile, on joint operations with other enforcement departments in the effort to curb the smuggling of contrabands, Khaw said that the state GOF will hold more joint collaborations to stamp out illicit activities.

“It would be our main priority to rid of any illicit activities involving the smuggling of contrabands (cigarettes and alcoholic beverages) and timber in the state.

“These items are among the biggest seizures in the state and GOF have always been making the efforts to collaborate with other agencies such as the Customs Department to curb the said activities,” he said.

“The team in Tebedu arrested a foreign man aged 27 and seized contrabands (cigarettes and alcoholic beverages) worth RM91,000, while in Mukah, 250 cartons of cigarettes worth RM88,000 were also confiscated.”

Both operations were conducted at 10.30am and 11am respectively. “The operation held in Mukah was a joint effort with the Customs Department,” said Khaw.
