Severe floods cause RM20K losses to Kampung Hulu residents

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Some 15 families in Kampung Hulu, Tambey suffered losses of around RM20,000 after their homes were submerged in floods, yesterday (Jan 25).

Continuous heavy downpour from 4pm to 12 midnight which caused water levels to rise up to four feet high began to enter their houses around 7pm.

The residents were not quick enough to save several household items and electrical appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators as well as vehicles.

One of the affected victims, Muhamad Jalir appeared stressed and lost by the floods which flooded his first floor.

“Initially, I thought the water would not rise, however, I was wrong.

“The floor and several areas in the kitchen had just been cemented and in an instance everything is destroyed,” he lamented.

For Ismadi Bujang, another victim, the floods came as a shock to him and family.

The sofas in the living room were among the belongings destroyed.

Wardrobes and other furniture items were also damaged.

“We managed to salvage the television, refrigerators and a few other items”, he said.

The floods began to subside at around 8 am after the rain stopped about 2 am.

Floods in other areas, including in Kampung Bako also began to subside.
