Sibu Airport cleanliness satisfactory; however authority urged to take rat control measures

SIBU: The cleanliness level of premises at Sibu Airport is satisfactory, said Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.

He said his council had monitored and inspected premises at the airport on Feb 24 following complaints of the presence of rats at a food premises within Sibu Airport.

“When our officers went to monitor, we found the situation satisfactory and there were no issues. We have not issued any fines or directives because so far the situation is satisfactory, and this is the result of our inspection,” he told a press conference after the SRDC meeting at Wisma Sanyan yesterday (March 13).

He said inspections were conducted at all premises within Sibu Airport with the cooperation of officers from Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad to ensure cleanliness was maintained.

“All food handlers undergo health inspections and attend food handling courses; we also ensure that no rat or cockroach enter the premises as well as ensure rat and insect control is carried out,” he added.

He revealed that SRDC also conducted activities to instal rat traps around the airport to detect the presence of rats.

“The rat traps installed (outside the compound) found the presence of rats in the area.

“The airport management has been informed, and a letter has been issued to take rat control measures to eliminate rat breeding grounds in the airport area,” he said.

Sempurai stressed that they take complaints seriously and will periodically monitor rat control activities by Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad.

He urged all parties to cooperate in maintaining a high cleanliness standard in the airport area.
