Sim clans from Singapore, Johor visit Sarawak counterparts

KUCHING: The Singapore and Johor Sim clans paid a courtesy call on the Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association and Chawan Sim Association recently.

The delegates from Singapore and Johor were welcomed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Speaking at a dinner later, Dr Sim welcomed the delegates and explained to them the Sarawak government’s policy of fairness for all with regard to religion and education, among others.

“We established the country’s first non-Muslim religious unit, Unit For Other Religions or Unifor, and Chinese education foundation, with an annual funding of up to RM10mil, and the allocation is also increased year by year,” Dr Sim said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association chairman Sim Mong Kian also welcomed the delegates and shared that the association had made some social contributions to support anti-Covid work.

Sim also disclosed that the association had started editing work for a magazine and had published the first World Sim Clan Association special edition.

Sim also expressed his gratitude to Dr Sim for supporting the association’s 35th anniversary celebration and funding from Unifor for the association.
