MARUDI: A family of six was made homeless after their house at Jalan Kampung Narum here was destroyed by fire yesterday.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as the family managed to escape to safety in the 6.30 pm blaze.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Marudi station were deployed to the scene after they received an emergency call.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene the fire was at its height and there was nothing much they could do to save the double-storey house except to prevent the fire from spreading.

“The team prevented the fire from spreading to another house, that was about 15 feet away,” the spokesman said.

After ensuring that the situation is safe, the firefighters cordoned off the scene before returning to their station.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Civil Defence Force (APM) said the house was occupied by the family of one of its member, who is attached to APM Marudi.

“It is believed that the fire happened from the engine part of an APM boat.

“The department’s asset was stationed at the victim’s house as preparation for the monsoon disaster,” the spokesman said.

All of the victims are temporarily taking shelter at their relative’s home.
