SIBU: The Sibu Journalist Association (SJA) has proposed to open up its membership to media practitioners in the state’s central zone.

According to its chairman Yii Souk Ming, SJA is the only journalists’ association that can open up its membership in this central region.

“This includes the areas of Kapit, Bintangor, Sarikei, Mukah, Tanjung Manis and Kanowit.

“Through this proposal, journalists in the central region will be able to enjoy the benefits and privileges of this association,” he said.

He was speaking at SJA’s annual general meeting (AGM) at a renowned hotel here last night (Mar 25).

SJA with its 40 members is currently only open to journalists in Sibu.

Also discussed during the meeting was the organisation of the SJA National Journalists Day (HAWANA) scheduled for May.

Meanwhile, on the overall SJA activities last year, Yii said various activities were successfully organised throughout 2023.

These included the 30th anniversary celebration of the association and Gong Xi Gawai Raya festivities.
