KUCHING: In support of the heroic efforts of frontline health workers in Sarawak and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in fighting Covid-19, St John Ambulance Sarawak (SJAS) has made and donated face shields to hospitals.

A total of 2,000 face shields, made by SJAS members, as well as a number of intubation boxes were handed over by SJAS staff officer D Chang to Wong Ngik Ching, who represented Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) director Dr Ngian Hie Ung.

SJAS founder, chairman and commander Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon said that 3,000 more face shields would be handed over next week for frontline health workers, especially doctors and nurses, battling Covid-19 in the hospitals.

“Eight divisions responded to the face shield project without any hesitation,” he said.

He pointed out that though it was the first time many SJAS members saw such a face shield, once they had examined a photo of it, they did an excellent job in producing face shields of a reasonably high standard.

“I am exceedingly proud of these members who have spent time doing productive things during this trying time. I thank each and every one of them for an incredible job done,” he said.

Ang stressed that everyone should play their role in the global fight against Covid-19 so that more lives could be saved, the virus contained and movement restrictions gradually lifted.
