KUCHING: The federal government is taking steps to empower the Bumiputera workforce and improve their lives, according to Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

During the Document Exchange Ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bumiputera Education Leadership Foundation (YPPB) and Collaborating Partners in Sarawak at TEGAS Digital Village today, Hanifah said that the number of skilled Bumiputera workers has increased by 5.1 per cent. In 2023, there were 2.65 million skilled Bumiputera workers compared to 2.52 million in 2020.

Hanifah said that the government’s efforts will focus on providing better educational opportunities and improving the quality of skills programmes. They also aim to increase participation in certified professional programmes and enhance the skills and marketability of Bumiputera graduates.

These initiatives align with the government’s vision to elevate Malaysia into a high-income country, she said.

The ceremony involved the exchange of MoU documents between YPPB and collaborating organisations, namely Centexs, Petrosains, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), and TEGAS.
