SRI AMAN: Oil palm smallholders are advised to register with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme as soon as possible.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sri Aman chairman Leon Jimat Donald gave the advice while visiting Rumah James, Ulu Paku in Ulu Undup recently.

He said the new forms for the MSPO certification application were available from MPOB offices or at the DAP office here.

Leon was at the longhouse to hand over a minor rural project cheque from Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen.

“The deadline for certification is December 2019 which is 11 months from now. Up to now, only 26% of the smallholders throughout Malaysia are registered for the certification scheme.

“After the December deadline,  planters without the certification will not be able to sell their palm oil fresh fruit bunches,” he said.
