SMK Three Rivers wins 10th Taekwondo Championship

MUKAH: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Three Rivers lifted the Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad (former Mukah MP) Challenge Trophy at the 10th Sarawak Schools Taekwondo Championship and Sarawak Open 2019 in Sibu over the weekend. The school bagged eight gold, six silver and six bronze medals during the championship which was held at Swan Square from Aug 23 to 25. SMK Three Rivers also emerged champion in the secondary school category.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Jenis Kebangasaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Boon also from Mukah, emerged champion for the fourth time and brought home the new Oscar Ling (Sibu MP) Challenge Trophy. The primary school champion won six gold, two silver and one bronze medals. Kelab Taekwondo Tunas Mukahalso perfomed well after they collected two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Other schools from Mukah that took part were SMK St Patrick (two silver and eight bronze), Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Patrick (one gold and two silver), and first-timer SK Agama Mukah (one silver). A total of 250 athletes competed in the championship which was declared open by Oscar Ling, and closed by Malaysia Global Taekwondo Federation (MGTF) president Grandmaster Datuk Amar Mohd Nor. Other participatings teams were from Kuching, Kanowit, MGTF Perak, UPSI Perak, MGTF Sabah and High Kick Kelantan.
