KUCHING: With Julau incumbent Datuk Larry Sng announcing that he will be defending his seat under the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) ticket, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said it is up to him (Sng) to decide.

The PRS president, when asked on Sng who will contest under the PBM ticket in the 15th general election (GE15), said Malaysia practices democracy and anybody is free to express their intention or feelings as they wish.

“As regards to PBM, it is up to PBM to decide whether they want to contest in Sarawak or not.

“Because, we also understand PBM is applying to join Barisan Nasional (BN). BN has made a stand in Sarawak.

“So, then we leave it to them (to decide); it is their party,” he told New Sarawak Tribune in an interview yesterday.

Earlier, Sng, who is the president of PBM in a Facebook post said that he would be contesting under the PBM ticket.

“As president of the party, I have never resigned from my position nor relinquished my party membership,” he said.

In another post, Sng said PBM respects the decision by Barisan Nasional (BN) not to be admitted into the coalition now and shall contest in GE15 under its own logo instead.

“We will revisit our application to join BN after the election. The party may not be limited to contest just incumbent seats and not all incumbents will be nominated as candidates in this election,” he said.

In the GE14, Sng who was contesting under an independent ticket secured 10,105 votes against Salang’s 8174 and won with a 1,931-vote majority.

Then, Salang was contesting under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket.
