KUCHING: The annual Mayor’s Walk returned this year with over 10,000 people joining the walk and donning the event’s blue T-shirt

The event, held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) foyer, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian. Later, he also took part in the stroll.

The walk began with participant arrival at 5.30am, followed by a quick Zumba session for 30 minutes at 6.30am, before it began at 7am.

The event was a part of the Kuching Festival, which aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness among members of the public.

Furthermore, it was claimed that this programme, which was held for the fourth time, increased engagement among friends, family and coworkers, in keeping with the Kuching Healthy City Concept.

During the event, participants were guided along the 3km route, which went from Jalan Padungan to Jalan Tan Sri Datuk William Tan to Lorong Goh Meng Teck and then back to Jalan Sekama.

A Sihat Sarawakku Programme was also running concurrently, collaborating with MBKS to offer free health screenings.

The types of health screenings that are being conducted are physical exams, blood pressure and pulse rate examinations, body composition tests as well as eye tests, with selected individuals eligible for additional urine and blood tests.

The walk was held again after a two-year pandemic hiatus, which saw a total of 11,768 registered participants.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, MBKS Deputy Mayor Hilmy Othman and other MBKS councillors were also present.
