Son fined RM2.5k for intimidating dad

KUCHING: A drunk and rebellious son who made a death threat against his biological father, 60, was today fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here.

Accused Tommy, 28, who threatened his father last September however failed to pay the fine. As such he was ordered by Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to be imprisoned for four months.

According to the charge sheet, he was accused of committing the act at their residence in Batu Kawa around 11.30pm on September 27.

Therefore, the accused was charged with criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to seven years or a fine or both, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant’s son, who was drunk, went on a rampage by throwing chairs and threatening to kill his father.

Following that, the complainant who was worried about the safety of himself and other family members came forward to make a police report for further action.

A day after the incident, the accused was successfully arrested by a police team from the Padawan IPD Criminal Investigation Division at their residence.

As a result of the investigation, the accused committed an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening to kill the victim by causing fear and trauma.
