SIBU: Due to the conditional movement control order (CMCO) which will start at midnight tomorrow, all sports and leisure activities including entertainments are not allowed.

Today, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh reminded the public here not to jog or walk in public parks in areas under the SMC jurisdiction.

He admitted that when Zone 1 to Zone 7 implemented the tightened standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the CMCO last week, some public members were seen jogging in the park or on the sidewalks within the zone.

“I did remind the public that sports activities are still not allowed in any sports complex or parks here,” he said.

According to Ting, SMC can only warn the public not to go to the parks at this time.

“We cannot close the parks because these parks are dissimilar to the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Stadium where there are gates to be locked. In the parks, there are no fences or gates that can be locked.

“So, if you are still stubborn to go, you are at your own risk. You may be infected with Covid-19 or spread the virus to others,” he said.

He advised Sibu residents to stay at home and not go out if there is no urgent necessity.

He said the cooperation of all is very much needed at this time to break the chain of the virus.

“If you really need to exercise, exercise lightly at home. There are many ways to exercise individually.

“For now, don’t exercise outside first. This virus is spreading everywhere.

“Reduce your movement, danger now lurks everywhere,” he said.
