SRI AMAN: The three-day Kenyalang Tourism Booster (KTB) Carnival at the Sri Aman Waterfront, marks a significant milestone in the local tourism sector.

Spearheaded by Innovative Youth Cooperative Sarawak Berhad (KOBIS) and BIMP-EAGA Young Entrepreneurs Chamber (BYEC), the event from Sept 1-3 which was endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performance Arts (MTCP), centred on the theme, ‘Blooming Homestays, Communities, and Beyond’.

It was graced by Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, underscoring her unwavering commitment to strengthening local tourism efforts.

KOBIS said the KTB Carnival attracted a notable turnout of both locals and visitors.

“At its core, KTB is a platform to empower local communities and invigorate Sarawak’s tourism sector. The inclusive approach ensures active participation of local residents, fostering sustainable tourism practices.

“Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG #17 (Partnerships for the Goals), KTB stands as a shining example of responsible and sustainable tourism, with a keen focus on preserving Sarawak’s natural beauty and cultural heritage,” KOBIS said in statement.

KOBIS highlighted several other tourism programmes such as the Pertandingan Testimoni Terbaik @Homestay Sarawak, which generated significant word-of-mouth endorsements on social media, effectively highlighted Sarawak’s unique offerings and rich cultural diversity.

Other programmes included the Cabaran Sukan Semangat Sukma Sarawak which showcased the state as a premier sports tourism destination, attracting sports enthusiasts keen on experiencing Sarawak’s sports culture and outdoor activities.

“The Pertandingan Tandak celebrated Sarawak’s artistic talents, offering a platform for traditional and contemporary dance and entertainment performances.

“Meanwhile, the Pertandingan Memancing saw hundreds of participants trying their luck at waterfront fishing. Many other challenges and activities were coordinated by local youth groups and entrepreneurs, adding vibrancy to the carnival.

“KTB’s Jualan Lelong Online supported local businesses and artisans, contributing to economic growth within Sarawak’s local communities.”

KOBIS said KTB’s innovative approach integrated physical and virtual activities, maximising its global reach and positioning Sarawak as a forward-thinking tourist destination.
