SELANGAU: The Sarawak government is actively supporting the well-being of longhouse residents.

The Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai said that funds are set aside for every state constituency including longhouses in the Kakus constituency.

“Every year, between five to seven longhouses in Kakus get aid for development from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC),” said Sikie at the Leaders with the People programme in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the new Rh Lubok Achong Ulu Sungai Arip at Rh Sigan Banjang, Jalan Ulu Sungai Arip here recently.

He also said that state assemblymen and MPs receive RM1 million annually from the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (PPRMS) to assist underprivileged individuals in building homes.

In this event, Sikie donated RM15,000 from the Minor Rural Project (MRP) to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Sigan.

Also present were Rh Sigan Banjang chief Pemanca Gerosen Jubin, Penghulu Lasit Bajieng, Penghulu Jeffery Irut, and SMK Tatau principal Dr Layang Ugek.
