KUCHING: Sarawak is ready to resume direct flights between Kuching and Pontianak.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state government is waiting for the Indonesian government to allow more flights to depart from their country.

He was reacting to whether flights from Pontianak to Kuching would be reinstated in time for the Rainforest World Music Festival 2023 (RWMF2023)

“Of course we are hoping that flights between Kuching and Pontianak would resume.

“This is because major cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bali are the only ones the Indonesian government has reopened for flights,” he said during a press conference after the launching ceremony of the RWMF2023 at Waterfront Hotel on yesterday (April 3).

Abdul Karim added that they are currently waiting for the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching to provide feedback on the resumption of flights.

“This is to make it easier for those who want to go to Pontianak not only for travelling, but also those who want to come to Sarawak for medical purposes,” he added.
