State delegation tours aviation maintenance centres in Malaya

SELANGOR: Transport minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin explored maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centres here, paving the way for aviation advancements.

He led a delegation from the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MoTS) on a two-day study visit of the heart of Malaysia’s aviation industry.

The visit from August 22 to 23 saw the delegation immersing themselves in MRO centres located in Subang and Sepang.

Delegation members included key figures such as MoTS Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, advisor Dr Lawrence Tseu Sed Kong, aviation technical advisor Sio Yew Hua, head of Aviation Zulkarnain Rosli, and  director of the Economic Planning Unit Sarawak Lester Matthew.

The delegation explored Malaysia’s key MRO centres, including the Asia Digital Engineering Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Capital A Berhad), National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd (NADI), and MAB Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group).

“With a focused mission to enhance Sarawak’s capabilities in the aviation industry, the delegation engaged with industry leaders to acquire intricate knowledge of MRO services and operations,” a press release from MoTS said today.

The extensive tour covered, among others, facilities and hangars, providing first-hand exposure to MRO operations.

“The visit holds substantial importance as Sarawak aspires to establish a boutique airline.

“By collaborating with these MRO centres, the delegation takes a pivotal step towards realising this aspiration, fostering local aviation players’ growth and expertise.

“Anticipating continued advancements and collaborations in the aviation sector, MoTS is enthusiastic about future partnerships with industry players,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that the  MRO visit would  set the foundation for innovations and collaborations that would significantly contribute to the ongoing development of Sarawak’s aviation landscape.
