KUCHING: The Sarawak government is planning to include Sebauh under the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) jurisdiction to ensure better planning and development.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Bintulu is spreading out; hence, it is necessary to ensure its suburbs will be planned and developed properly.

“The period between 2020 and 2030 is the second wave of development in Bintulu, with various projects and progress taking place.

“Hence, we are discussing the plan to expand BDA’s areas of jurisdiction,” he said.

In addition, he said, planning needs to be done in line with Sarawak’s green economy, where Bintulu and its surrounding areas should be low-carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive.

Abang Johari, who is also the BDA chairman, was speaking at the BDA 45th anniversary celebration dinner in Bintulu last night (July 14).

He also launched the Bintulu Development Authority Strategic Plan 2024–2030, themed ‘Towards A Low Carbon Industrial Hub by 2030′, with the vision to make Bintulu a model of inclusivity, liveability, and sustainability.

The plan, he said, is aimed at delivering outstanding community-focused services through strategic and impactful investments that emphasise economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability and is in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Abang Johari also said development plans for Bintulu towards 2030 will also include establishing the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) to connect Samalaju-Kidurong with Bintulu and Jepak.

Sarawak state secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and BDA general manager Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari were among those who attended.
