State records four latest Covid-19 related deaths

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded four Covid-19 related deaths on Wednesday (Apr 21), bringing the state’s tally to 145 cases.

The state Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement revealed that the first death was a 72-year-old local man who was receiving treatment at Kanowit Hospital due to breathing difficulties.

“The case was referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment but his health condition worsened and he passed away on Apr 19.

“He was tested Covid-19 positive on Apr 20 through rT-PCR screening test and he had comorbid of high blood pressure,” SDMC said.

The second fatality was a 73-year-old local man who was receiving emergency treatment at Sibu Hospital for breathing difficulties.

“The case was symptomatic with cough, flu, lost sense of smell and taste a few days ago. The Covid-19 screening through Rapid Test Kit Antigen and rT-PCR were positive on Apr 9.

“His health condition deteriorated and he passed away on Apr 19. He had comorbidities of obstructive chronic lung disease and heart disease,” SDMC said.

The third fatality involved a 61-year-old local man who was receiving treatment in Sibu Hospital for having close contact to Covid-19 positive case among family members.

“The case was categorised as high risk with comorbidities of diabetes, dyslipidaemia and final stage kidney disease.

“The screening with an rT-PCR found him to be Covid-19 positive on Mar 19. His health condition worsened and he passed away on Apr 20,” SDMC said.

Meanwhile, the fourth fatality was an 82-year-old local man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital for having close contact with Covid-19 positive case among family members.

“He was tested positive on Mar 30. His health condition deteriorated and he passed away on Apr 20.

“He had comorbidities of high blood pressure and gout. This case involved the Tanjung Genting Cluster,” SDMC said.

The committee extended condolences to the victims’ family members.
