State reports 429 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 429 new positive Covid-19 cases today (Apr 21), bringing the state’s tally to 25,558.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 82 of these cases were reported in Meradong District, Sibu (62), Bintulu (58), Kuching (54), Bukit Mabong (36), Miri (23), Kapit (21), Song (17), Mukah (11), Sarikei (11), Julau (7), Samarahan (6), Kanowit (5), Subis (5), Selangau (5), Limbang (5), Marudi (4), Matu (4), Pakan (4), Sri Aman (2), Pusa (1), Serian (1), Dalat (1), Saratok (1), Beluru (1), Belaga (1)  and Bau (1).

“Of the 429 new cases reported, 64 people showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening,” the committee said in a statement today.

It added 374 individuals detected were those who had been given quarantine order.

On the breakdown of the 429 cases, SDMC said 276 cases were individuals who had contacts with positive Covid-19 cases, 96 were individuals linked to existing active clusters, 29 were other screenings at health facilities, 26 involved screenings by symptomatic individuals at health facilities, and two were individuals who had returned from other states in Malaysia (categorised as Import B cases).

“Today (Wednesday), 414 new cases have recovered and been discharged,” said the committee.

It said of these, 158 cases were from Sibu Hospital and the Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under it, Bintulu Hospital (68), Miri Hospital (58), Sarawak General Hospital (49), Kapit Hospital and the PKRC under it (35), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC (20), Betong PKRC (12), Mukah PKRC (6), Sri Aman Hospital (3), Serian PKRC (3) , Limbang Hospital (1), and Sri Aman prison PKRC (1).

“This brings the number of Covid-19 cases who have recovered and been discharged to 19,641 or 76.85 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak,” it said.

SDMC said 5,706 active cases were still being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards.

“428 new persons under investigation (PUI) have been reported and no PUIs are awaiting laboratory test results,” it added.
