KUCHING: Being in a panic situation when facing a fire outbreak is among the causes of failed fire prevention at the early stage.
The director of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, Datuk Khirudin Drahman stated that in the event of a fire, there was no need to panic but rather prevent the cause of the fire immediately to stop it from spreading.
“If we panic, we will lose rational thinking and make the decision to leave the fire scene, when in fact we can prevent it.
“If a fire occurs in a house, make sure to close the main switch and use available water sources to extinguish the fire,” he said.
He made these remarks during the Bomb Disposal Equipment Handover Programme at the Selangan Batu Village Community here today.
Khirudin said that in every fire incident, the first five minutes are crucial for the victims to respond.
Earlier, the department also conducted a fire extinguishing demonstration and handed over bomb disposal equipment to the Selangan Batu Village community.
A total of 34 fire extinguisher units were donated to the community as an initial exposure to the community’s responsibility in preventing fires.
Also present were the Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui.
