MIRI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with China’s leaders would bring much good news, says Pujut Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth, Publicity and Information secretary Kevin Hii, including—he hoped—direct flights from Sarawak to China.
“Although the visit brought many positive messages, there are not many flight options to China.
“Currently, the only direct flights to China are from Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. Sarawak has always had a good relationship with China, and there is a Chinese Consulate-General in Kuching,” he pointed out.
“Therefore, it is hoped that there will be direct flights from Sarawak to China to increase economic progress between the two countries and promote cultural exchange.
“China has always been one of the top tourist destinations in the world, and Sarawak has many tourist attractions. Direct flights to China will help Sarawak’s tourism industry grow better,” he added.
Hii said China had many innovative business concepts that young entrepreneurs in Sarawak could learn from.
“Having direct flights will allow young people to seek business opportunities in China and develop their local businesses. Young people need more business and employment opportunities.”
Additionally, students would have the chance to study at universities in China and learn the latest technologies, then bring them back to Malaysia for development, he explained.
“Therefore, increasing direct flights will undoubtedly bring more opportunities to Sarawak.”
Anwar recently completed a four-day visit to China where he met with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other leaders.
